looking for a bogger charcoal grill

I'm looking to get a new, solid performing (not cheapo) charcoal grill. Thanks to some input here and outside research, I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a Weber 26.75 kettle ($300). Any downside to not being able to adjust the height of the coal grate?

My budget is in the $500 range. Any other suggestions? Looking to grill 80% of the time for groups of 6-20 people (we always have people over on the weekends), maybe do some bbq low and slow (although I hope to get a WSM for that soon)...
