I have a Weber LP grill, about 5 years old, which I use all the time. The original cooking grates were porcelin, and they were shot. I went on Amazon, saw great reviews for the stainless grates, so I bought those.
Out them in the grill, they looked awesome with that poliched shine. Used them once to cook a few burgers, and I saw 2 things. First, the grates changed color to a dingy brown. Second, the grates were smeared here and there with grease.
So I left the grill on high for a few minutes, which burned off most of the grease. I ran a wire brush over the grates to get the rest, and I was horrified to see scratch marks where I used the brush.
So I have these stainles ssteel grates that are stained brown and scratched up.
Is something wrong with the grates? Or did I do somehting wrong? Or are the grates fine as they are?
Weber has cast iron grates, as well as cast iron grates that are porcelin enameled.
I want grates that I can clean easily without damaging. Any suggestions?
