IGM, Total bad idea. I think if I was gonna cook with firewood, I would do so out in the open, campfire or cowboy style. I believe todays grills are designed to use packaged charcoal or lump only.

Growing up in the south around bbqs the wood was always burned down to coals before placing under the meat. That was making bbq not grilling.

I would not use wood from the grocery to cook with. Much of that has been chemically treated and could harm your family.

Oak, hickory, fruitwoods, mesquite are good choices for cooking.

I might suggest maybe spending a little time on Google to get info on cooking with wood.
