Char-Broil CB940X, cleaning and care

Just started using a new Char-Broil CB940X, much different than my past experience with Weber kettle. Not quite sure how much cleaning and maintenance is required. I did the initial 'seasoning' of the steel (interior and cast iron grates only) with veg oil, and everything seems fine so far. Do I need to oil the exterior steel also? What is the best grill brush material for true CI grates, steel or brass bristles? How often does a heavy coat of oil need to be re-applied to the interior? Is it OK to let the ash pan fill for two or three cooks before emptying it? Anyone else had particularly good or bad experience with this model? This wasn't exactly my top choice of grills, and its not replacing my Weber. Trying to decide if its worth keeping or if I should sell it.
