That is all the hotter you will be able to get her...it is what it is (Weber's are a bit underpowered when you look at BTU per sq inch), BUT their design of the grill creates a convection effect that helps cook the food evenly and, that is the temp that your grill therm is reading...you put an instant read thermo at the grate level and I bet you are up around 750 or so, but if you are looking for 1000 degree temps, the Weber ain't gonna do it...but it does cook very well for the price..no question about that
