Personally I see no reason to even marinate a ifne piece of critter like a ribeye so they woudl not witn in my book.
I'll share something on this I learned from a 5 star chef in Italy.
NOrthern Italians are VERY fond of grilling. No piece of meat, fish or vegetation is safe from a grill in northern Italy.
That being said they do things VERY simple. Things get a light dressing of extra virgin olive oil just before going on the grill. When they come off the grill they use a green sauce somewhat similar to a thin pesto. On meats especially this is absorbed and enhances it's flavor in ways you cannot imagine. I use this technique myself and people who have never experienced almost look like they going though an orgasm when they eat.
