Well to answer your question you will have to decide whats important to you. Do you want the quick fire convenience, and consistency of gas. Or the thrill and aroma of charcoal (I personally love making and tending fires in my charcoal grills and smokers)? I believe both forms of cooking will impart a smokey, fire like flavor but really only if the lid is kept closed during the cooking process. I feel this really applies to the gas because the only real smokey flavor the grill will impart (unless some kind of smoke box or wood chips are used) is that of the fat or juices from whats being cooked burning, and being absorbed by the meat. The charcoal on the other hand will impart some of their own woodsy like flavors while they burn, again more so if the lid is kept closed during the cooking process. I my humble opinion I love charcoal. I use nothing else. So I am a little biased when it comes to your question. Regardless of what you decide to do I recommend purchasing a Weber. I do not work for them, nor do I receive any incentives to say so. I've just used them, and love them. They make amazing products. I encourage you to do some looking around before you buy though. Decide what you want in a cooker. If you have any more questions I'll be happy to try and help some more.
