I think it depends on what you're willing to do for convenience. During the week when I get in from a long commute and just want to throw something on the grill, gas can't be beat for speed. If I get home earlier, or on the weekend, when I have more time, I use wood/charcoal. Tastes better, but with gas I can cook and clean up from the meal in the time it takes for charcoal to be ready just to cook on. Being that charcoal grills are so cheap, use both. When you have the luxury of time, definitely go with charcoal, but when you just need some food in your stomach quick, gas is it.
