Gas Vs Carcoal

Hey guys, I'm currently using a super cheap piece of crap charcoal grill that I picked up somewhere for like $15-20 bucks. But I'm grilling all the time, and I'm really getting into shishkabobs. So I'm thinking of upgrading, and I was thinking gas.

The question I have is this - does gas grilled food taste different than charcoal? Does it still have that char-grilled flavor? Should I get a gas grill, or just get a better charcoal grill?
