We are going to build an outside kitchen. Budget is limited but I really like the Weber Genesis 320. I know that I can step up to the Weber Summit - built-in but the price more than doubles.
My plan is to build frame with metal studs for framing and use concrete backboard with stone veneer. I would build around the 2 sides and the rear with studs and also provide some ventalation. The side of the cart would have about 2 feet of ventalation to the interior of the cabinet and the rear wold have about 6 inches. I would also put vents on the sides of the island. Approximate size of the island is 3' x 8'. I would leave the cart (without wheels) and side panels (control panel and side burner) intact. The side panels would set on a lip of the conter top (leaving the bottom of the side trays open to the interior caviety). I really wouldn't be altering the unit - just buildinng it into a large island.
Has anyone done something like this or am I completely off base with this? I don't want to take any changes with saftey. I'm sold on Webers but I hate to pay twice as much for the built-in (Summit) if a 320 would work. I've seen other built-in units at Lowes but much cheaper quality/build than the Webers and I don't think they would last near as long.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
