CJ, All metal is high just now. The recyclers are busy as they can be.
I don't know that you have to oil it before and after each use, but you will need to get it cured properly and maintain it. I usually brush my grate as soon as I take up the meat and again before putting any down. That way there are no particles left on the grates to cause rust. You can always add more oil/grease to the rack when needed.
