I am about done building a BBQ and went to buy a piece of expanded stainless steel for the grate. They wanted $103.00 for a piece that was 20" X 30". That was more than I wanted to spend. I asked a welder friend if would be okay to use regular (mild) expanded steel without rusting. He said yes if you put vegtable oil on it before and after every use and allow it to cook into the metal much like you would with a cast-iron skillet. Any comments or suggestions?
