question on when to replace a charcoal grill..

I’ve had a Weber One Touch charcoal grill for ages now – about 8+ years. My question is, when is it time to replace a grill? I’ve noticed that mine has charcoal flakes (?) in the inside and its pretty tough to clean out the inside of it (hardened charcoal etc..)
