Because on a mid size grill you can do MUCH more MUCH more effectively. One case in point: Spinning a chicken. The Genesis will do a superior job spinning roasts than any other unit even those with an IR rotiss burner. I used to have both. Side by side comparisons assured this.
On a very large grill this setup will not work hence why even weber on it's larger Summit series uses the other arrangement. But is the sizes of most mid size units like this you will never do better
