I wouldn't. Read up on Weber's design theory there and you'll see why it's on the side. It IS safer and more convenient too. If you really find the tank that bad to see run a NG line and convert it to NG.
BTW I once had one of those fancy nameless Chinese ones with the tank underneath. I can tell you that tank got HOT. Very scary
