I just discovered this forum today...and was just about to post a Hasty-Bake question when I saw this thread. One of the defining memories of my childhood in Kansas City in the 60's-70's was my dad grilling on his Hasty-Bake. He swore by it, and took a certain pride in having a grill that maybe not everyone knew about, but represented quality to those in the know. His legacy to me in this area is that I would never even consider getting a gas grill, and even though I've cooked on a Weber kettle for the past 10 years, I've always held Hasty-Bake in high regard.
Now that I'm considering trading up from the Weber, and expanding my repertoire beyond basic grilling, Hasty-bake is my first consideration. But they are very expensive - $1000 and up. So are they worth it? Are there less expensive alternatives that have the same versitility?
