I used to heat for 10 minutes on high and then clean my gasser after every use. When I bought my Broilmaster, I was to told in order to entend the life of the flavor screen, shut down after use, preheat for about ten minutes and clean the grate before each use. I do brush the grate with a brass grill brush to get the loose stuff off before shuting down after each use. Seems to be working.
