As to the side burner, I don't know what you'd use it for. I've had one all summer on my new Jenn-Air and only lit it once to make sure that it works. I've found that side burners in general are sized for a high btu output, and that being the case, they don't throttle down low enough to simmer or poach. We recently installed a Viking Professional Series in out kitchen and it has burners that range from 14,000 btu down to a simmer burner. I much prefer cooking on that puppy and just using the JA for grilling or rotisserizing.
