I have been using the chimney for a few years now and haveny had any real problems with newspaper ash.
Here are a few suggestions
1 - Don't use too much paper - only need 1 sheet of paper to do the trick - light it on 3 sides and you'll have it going in no time -just leave it alone
2 - After you know the charcoal is lit - put on your glove and lift the chimney to let the paper ash fall out and through the coal grate
before you dump the coals in.
I have found the parafin cubes to be full of nasty chemicals that give my chunk charcoal about the same taste as lighter fluid and you got the chimney to avoid lighter fluid right.
