I had a Sears kenmore grill with porc. coated cast iron cooking grids. I recently retired the grill after lasting 16 years, only 3 burners and it saw a lot of use. The grates are still in good shape.
I bought a stainless grill from Costco and ended up taking it back. The grill had solid stainless grids but discolored and looked nasty after cooking. They cooked fine but did not retain heat near as well as the cast iron. I ended up returning the grill to Costco and bought a Capt Cook from BBQ Galore and it has the porc. coated CI grids ---love em. Love the grill..Stainless is still OK but the whole grill looked nasty after each use and the grill will discolor. I am not a person that wants to polish a grill after using...just my 2 cents.
